US Reduces UN Humanitarian Aid to $2B from Previous Levels

Published on: Dec. 29, 2025, 10:01 p.m. | Source: scanx.trade

The United States has announced a significant reduction in its humanitarian assistance to the United Nations, committing $2 billion in funding. This represents an 88% decrease from previous contributions of up to $17 billion. The funding will be directed to a pooled fund supporting selected crises across seventeen countries, including Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Syria, and Ukraine. Notable exclusions include Afghanistan and Palestine. This reduction comes amid a severe UN funding shortfall and is part of broader US foreign aid cuts. Aid organizations warn of serious humanitarian consequences, including potential loss of educational services for 23 million children and basic healthcare for up to 95 million people.
