Morning habits that reduce your vitamin B12 levels without you realizing

Published on: Dec. 10, 2025, 7:53 a.m. | Source: Times of India

For most of us, morning starts with a set routine — a series of rituals that stay more or less the same every day. A hot cup of tea or coffee, maybe a quick breakfast, sometimes a glass of warm milk, or for some, a glass of smoothie packed with all the nutritious and necessary ingredients. These habits not only prepare us for the day ahead, but they also give us an energetic start — and are mostly considered “healthy habits.”But what if some of these “healthy habits” aren’t wholly healthy — what if some of those morning rituals are quietly undermining one of the most important nutrients we need for our well-being: vitamin B12?Vitamin B12 absorption, while essential for energy production, nervous system health, and red blood cell formation, can be surprisingly fragile. Even a seemingly harmless daily ritual might, over time, chip away at your B12 reserves without obvious warning signs. And because our bodies cannot store much B12 for the long term, even the slightest interference with absorption or increased loss can gradually lead to deficiency. Over time, that could contribute to fatigue, weakness, memory issues, or other symptoms of B12 deficiency. Now, all those “healthy” morning habits we talked about, surprisingly, some of those very common morning rituals can reduce B12 absorption — without us even realizing. The good news, understanding how everyday morning habits may contribute to lowered B12 levels and being aware of those rituals so that you can check them — are the very first steps to safeguarding this crucial vitamin.
