Not losing weight despite working out? 4 factors might be affecting your metabolism
Published on: Dec. 11, 2025, 8 p.m. | Source:
Times of India
Ask anyone who is counting calories and working out diligently about how it feels not seeing the scale on the weighing machine move left, and they will come back to you with a definition of disappointment and heartbreak. And to be honest, after spending months with a proper diet and regular exercise, not losing much weight can be quite frustrating and demoralizing. Not to mention the toll it takes on someone’s confidence. But science says there might be some sneaky factors at play behind someone not losing weight despite doing it all.The truth is, many people exercising consistently still not losing weight as expected, is not about a lack of effort on their part. Weight loss isn’t simply about working harder in the gym and controlling your meal portions. Metabolism, the mechanism that converts food into energy, plays a key role in how effectively our body burns calories and fat. Now, someone’s metabolism depends on a number of factors — genetics, age, sex, hormonal health, body size, muscle mass, etc. Similarly, there are several factors that can affect one’s metabolism — some catalyzing it and some slowing it down. When your metabolism isn’t functioning optimally, even intense workouts and strict dieting may not produce the results you want. However, understanding the hidden factors that might influence your metabolic rate and slow it down can help you adjust your strategy — without getting disheartened.
Modern science reveals that dietary fats, when chosen wisely, are crucial for sustained energy, hormone production, and brain health. These beneficial fats aid nutrient absorption, promote satiety, and regulate blood glucose, leading to improved metabolic flexibility and emotional balance. Focusing on nutrient-rich sources like ghee, olive oil, and avocados, rather than refined carbs and industrial oils, transforms overall wellness.
