Panagariya backs simultaneous polls; Montek for keeping LS, state elections separate

Economists presented varied opinions to a parliamentary committee regarding simultaneous elections. Arvind Panagariya supported the idea. Montek Singh Ahluwalia suggested holding all assembly polls together, but not with the Lok Sabha. Surjit Bhalla favored "one nation, one election". He proposed aligning state elections with the Lok Sabha's mid-term. The committee is studying the bill for simultaneous elections.
