Chinese markets opened 2026 strongly with the Shanghai Composite rising 1.40% to 4,023.42 points, crossing 4,000 for the first time since November 14. Technology sectors led the rally, with semiconductors up 5.60% and AI stocks gaining 3.20%. The CSI300 posted its best performance since September at 1.90%, while insurance and defense sectors also recorded significant gains. Bank of America analysts see 10-15% room for further expansion despite structural challenges.
